AUSTIN, Texas — On the heels of their “indescribably delicious” (San Antonio Express-News) new album, The Light, released the past June, Uncle Lucius continues their national tour with a series of September shows in the Southern United States and Midwest including stops in Nashville for the Americana Music Festival and Rock Island, Ill. for a Daytrotter session.

Uncle Lucius has gathered critical acclaim for taking rock ’n’ roll from its deep roots and pushing it onward, “putting their own honest interpretation on the essential elements of R&B, blues, and country,” says Artshound. “The Austin-based band “plays to its strengths on its fourth album,” notes All Music. “Few do it with the panache and soulfulness of Uncle Lucius,” writes the hometown Austin Chronicle.

“At this point, we are more comfortable than ever with the new songs from The Light,” says lead singer Kevin Galloway. “I believe they already sound better than what we played on the album.”

In addition to new tour dates, the band has just released a farcical new video for “Don’t Own the Right.” 

Uncle Lucius’ Jonny “Keys” Grossman describes it as “a tale of redemption in the form of resignation and self-reflection that asks, ‘am I at my best when I acquiesce?’” In a droll tone, he continues, “From the exhumed remains of an abortive South Austin time capsule, hidden-camera footage reveals the secret lives of aristocratic transients living underneath the awning at Uncle Lucius headquarters. It’s a twisted tale, a fable full of bizarre rituals.

August 18, 2015 (Toronto, ON) – The Canadian Country Music Association® (CCMA®) announced this morning that Autumn Hill, Paul Brandt, High Valley, Jess Moskaluke and special guest Thomas Rhett will perform on the 2015 CCMA Awards Show. Being broadcast from Halifax, Nova Scotia on Sunday, September 13, the 2015 CCMA Awards Show will air on CBC-TV at 8 p.m. local time (8:30 p.m. NT) with an encore airing on CMT (Canada) at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT, and will feature performances by Tim Hicks, Brett Kissel, Dallas Smith, and Florida Georgia Line, as previously announced.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — “It’s really humbling, and it’s great to know that so many people care,” Supersuckers leader Eddie Spaghetti says of the band’s fans, who have stepped up in droves to lend support following the front man’s recent diagnosis of stage-3 throat cancer.

The indefatigable singer/bassist/songwriter’s illness — which coincides with release of the Supersuckers’ bracing new album Holdin’ the Bag — has forced the band to cancel a planned European tour and put their touring activities on temporary hold, while Eddie undergoes surgery, radiation treatment and rehab. Meanwhile, the Eddie Spaghetti Cancer Fight Fund has already raised more than $57,000 to help pay for his treatment, thanks to the kindness and generosity of the group’s fans. Holdin’ the Bag is set release on October 16, 2015 on Acetate Records.

If Eddie has proven anything over the course of the past quarter-century, it’s that he’s one of rock’s most tenacious survivors. KERRVILLE, Texas — Nobody could invent a character quite like Kinky Friedman, the stogie-waving, black-hat-wearing Texas Jewboy singer, storyteller, tequila purveyor, animal rescuer and full-time iconoclast. Though renowned for penning some of outlaw country’s most outrageous songs, authoring bestsellers and running for governor of Texas, his 45-year career includes touring with Dylan’s Rolling Thunder Revue; recording with Clapton, most of the Band and Ringo Starr; appearing on Saturday Night Live and at the Grand Ole Opry; and writing one of Nelson Mandela’s favorite songs. He also became the protagonist of his own crime novels, because even he couldn’t invent a character that could out-kink Kinky Friedman.

But what he hasn’t done in 39 years is record a new studio album. Friedman’s The Loneliest Man I Ever Met, releasing October 2 on Avenue A Records/Thirty Tigers, might be one of the longest-awaited follow-ups in recent memory. Not that fans have complained; the continued popularity of tunes such as “Sold American,” “Nashville Casualty and Life” and “Ride ’Em Jewboy” (the Holocaust-referencing song that soothed Mandela in prison) prove Kinky is that rare talent whose work withstands the test of time. Friedman still delivers those songs — interspersed with his inimitable blend of politically incorrect quips, jokes and tales both tall and true — to appreciative audiences around the world.

Still, there were more sentiments he needed to express — his own and those of colleagues such as Tom Waits, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Merle Haggard and his pal Willie Nelson, who produced and performs on his own “Bloody Mary Morning.” The album’s opening song, which also features Willie’s sister, Bobbie, on piano and Kevin Smith on standup bass, is rendered as a spare duet, their traded lines punctuated with Nelson’s Spanish guitar-picking. Conveying both immediacy and intimacy, it sets the tone for the other 11 tracks, all produced by Brian Molnar and featuring guitarist Joe Cirotti, with harmonica by Willie’s Family Band mate Mickey Raphael and piano contributions by Little Jewford, Kinky’s sidekick since his first post-Peace Corps job — bandleader of the Texas Jewboys.
