Nashville, TN- May 4, 2017 (Press Release) - Country music recording artist Matt Stillwell gave back to the youth community of Los Angeles last weekend on his first stop of the Badges For Baseball tour in partnership with the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation. Stillwell, along with 30 members of the LAPD, hosted 200 underprivileged children as part of a youth mentor program uniting police officers with children to strengthen the relationship between law enforcement and today’s youth through the game of baseball.

“When I found out about the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation's Badges For Baseballprogram, I knew I had to be a part of it. They’ve been bringing kids and cops together through baseball for 12 years now, helping to bridge the gap of one of the most socially relevant issues we face in America today,” shares Stillwell. “Our hope at the end of the day is that when these kids see a cop, it’s a familiar face and not a scary one, and the same goes on the other end. Music and baseball are both fun and healing, and I want these kids and cops to experience both as much as possible.”

Bret Busch Announces New LP, 'Pills Lace & Confetti' Out July 14

(Press Release)  May 4, 2017 - Atlanta-based tropical indie-pop artist Bret Busch has officially announced the release of his new LP, Pills Lace & Confetti, out July 14. The album was produced by Atlanta legends The Rock*A*Teens' frontman Will Joiner, who also wrote the album's lead single "Ink Black Sea" specifically for Busch. In conjunction with the announcement, "Ink Black Sea" premiered at PopMatters who called it "a catchy toe-tapping pop tune with a killer chorus, punctuated by a bright and energetic horn section."

Although  Pills Lace & Confetti  bears the name Bret Busch, it’s a product of working relationships formed over his 25-plus years as the singer of a half-dozen Atlanta bands, including Parlour, Pardner, Ramada and The Hollidays, projects that sprung from the same fertile Cabbagetown scene that launched artists like Cat Power and Benjamin Smoke.

The core team behind Busch’s new solo debut came from two wonderfully disparate ends of the musical spectrum—the indie-centric Merge Records roster (including members of Destroyer and The Rock*A*Teens) and the backing band of hyper-creative R&B star Janelle Monae. These guest artists’ combined talents and Busch’s admirable range as a vocalist coalesce on  Pills Lace & Confetti,  creating a sparkling, unapologetically loungey, lysergic trop-pop album—a laidback, caipirinha-sipping affair peppered with breezy tropicalia, sweltering disco, pensive jazz and boozy country flourishes.

(Press Release) Gillian   Welch’s  2011 album, the GRAMMY-nominated  The   Harrow   &   The   Harvest, described by the Washington Post as “Welch...at her haunting, heart-aching best,” will be released for the first time ever on vinyl via her own Acony Records on July 28th. Of the process Gillian Welch reveals, "We have been working and waiting 20 years to bring you our music on phonograph record. It took a while, because we wanted to do it the right way, the absolute best way humanly possible, and I believe that's what we've done. No sonic stone was left unturned, no nuance let fall by the wayside. There is honestly nothing else I can imagine hoping to hear out of the original tapes. It is all there in the groove. As people whose lives were changed by the sound of music coming off turntables, we humbly invite you to include us in your record collection." The single LP will be packaged in an "Old Style" tip-on gatefold jacket with custom paper and will include full color cover art by artist John Dyer Baizley, also of the group Baroness, as well as a printed sleeve, and full lyric insert. The album was mastered directly from the original tapes through custom Ortofon amplifiers to a Neumann VMS-80 cutting system and plated and pressed on standard-weight audiophile-quality vinyl at Quality Record Pressings, and can be pre-ordered  here.

This morning,  Rolling Stone Country  premiered the music video for Gillian Welch’s “Dark Turn Of Mind,” off  The   Harrow   &   The   Harvest,   calling it “spectacularly haunting”. The video features never before seen footage and you can watch it  here.

Shari Rowe's "Southern Spells" Cast May 22

Maven  Recording  artist, Shari Rowe   is back again  with the new esoteric single, “Southern Spells.” The alluring tale  kicks off with a live performance on  KGUN Channel 9's  Tucson’s Morning Blend   May 18  in  Tucson, Arizona. The single will be released  to all digital formats on Monday, May 22  and will be available for fans to preorder  May 12.

A bewitching  acoustic guitar riff begins the track and sets the tone for the raw power to follow in the tune. Listeners will hear  Shari Rowe’s  familiar  bluegrass and classic country elements, but she brings an edgier, more outlaw country vibe to "Southern Spells." The band incorporates all of the proper elements of a Western-style groove with a squealing fiddle filling in where the vocals rest.  The song tells a cryptic tale of a charming yet deceitful Southern Belle, sending out a warning to those she encounters, saying "you will recognize that look in her eyes and you'll know, you better look away, you better run."

(Press Release) Indie-Americana trio William The Conqueror today announced the release of their debut album ‘Proud Disturber Of The Peace’ via Loose on  4 August 2017   joining a roster of esteemed label mates including Courtney Marie Andrews, Sturgill Simpson, and The Handsome Family. William The Conqueror debuted first single ‘In My Dreams’ which was premiered today on influential music publication Four Oh Five, who stated, “William The Conqueror seems hellbent on blurring the lines between genres. While the headline of this very piece dubs them an "Americana" act, they could also easily be labeled as "country" or "folk" or even "grunge" or just straight-forward "rock." But whatever you want to call William The Conqueror does not matter. All that matters is that this group is good. Damn good.”  Listen HERE

Hailing from the coast of Cornwall, multi-instrumentalists Ruarri Joseph, Harry Harding and Naomi Holmes channel classic blues and singer-songwriter influences through a grunge/indie filter drawing influences from bands and artists as diverse as The Doors, Ryan Adams and The Lemonheads, with Mark Guarino from The Guardian describing them as “stomping country rock veering into stoner grunge”. Praised for their grit and authenticity by the likes of The Guardian and NPR’s Ann Powers, the three piece have already made their mark across the pond in Nashville performing at the influential AmericanaFest which led to a nomination for best song at the UK Americana Awards and a chance to share the stage with the likes of Jools Holland and Van Morrison.

Rickie Lee Jones' Memoir "RICKIE LEE" Out November 14th

5/3/2017

Picture
NEW YORK (Press Release) Grove Press is pleased to announce the fall publication of RICKIE LEE, a tender and intimate memoir by one of the most remarkable, trailblazing, and tenacious women in music,  Rickie Lee Jones.

Grove Atlantic’s Editorial Director Elisabeth Schmitz and Publisher Morgan Entrekin acquired the book from agent Andrew Blauner. Publication is scheduled for  November 14, 2017.

“I am a life-long admirer of Rickie Lee Jones and her distinct musical and storytelling gifts,” says Schmitz “Her prose is every bit as fresh and surprising as the poetry of her song lyrics. It’s been a thrill to work with Rickie Lee on her extraordinary life story.”

Rickie Lee Jones skyrocketed to fame in 1979, when as a yet unknown artist she appeared on Saturday Night Live, performing “Chuck E’s in Love,” in her trademark red beret. Time Magazine instantly dubbed her “the Duchess of Coolsville.” Since then she has gone on to win two Grammy Awards, appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone twice, and was elected one of VH1’s “100 Greatest Women of Rock & Roll.”

RICKIE LEE  is the first ever no-holds-barred account of the life of one of rock’s hardest-working women in her own words. With candor and wit, Jones takes us on the journey of her exceptional life: from her nomadic childhood as the granddaughter of vaudevillian performers to her father’s abandonment of the family and her years as a teenage runaway, from her beginnings at LA’s Troubadour club to her affair with Tom Waits, her collaborations with Steely Dan, Dr. John and punk icon Mike Watt. She also writes about motherhood as a touring artist, and longevity as a woman in rock and roll.

Including never-before-told stories and accounts of the music business as Jones lived it, and illustrated with stunning personal photos,  RICKIE LEE  is an indispensable chronicle of one of rock’s most innovative music icons.

Radiator King Releases 'A Hollow Triumph After All'; Embarks on US Tour

May 3, 2017 -- Brooklyn's Radiator King (aka Adam Silvestri) officially released his new LP, A Hollow Triumph After All   last Friday, after months of releasing singles at Impose, PunkNews, PopMatters, No Depression, The Bluegrass Situation, Purevolume, Glide and more. In support of the release, Radiator King has embarked on a six week long tour that will see Silvestri and his band play New York, Washington D.C., Atlanta, Nashville, Austin, Los Angeles, San Francisco and more.

Radiator King’s A Hollow Triumph After All  is at once celebratory & somber, deftly channeling the mood of a Crescent City second line, that holy brass-anchored yin-yang jazz-funeral tradition of New Orleans. A sacred and profound attempt to transcend pain, loss and suffering by celebrating a life well-lived, while at once acknowledging the darkly tragicomic Catch 22 of existence—that we’re born to die.

“We’re all down here together,” muses Adam Silvestri, the singer, songwriter and creative force behind Radiator King. “What connects us is the strife we share in struggle. It unites us, it makes us do wonderful things. There’s this proverb in Eastern philosophy—within crisis is opportunity. I very much believe that. I think that what people connect with in music often has to do with pain. So building this record around the idea of a New Orleans funeral procession—it’s about finding a way to overcome the pitfalls in life, to face them straight on and find the beauty in doing that. That’s what character is in my opinion. That’s what integrity is. Those moments of crisis are where we learn what we’re built of.”

Cindy Lee Berryhill Hits the Road For Summer Tour - New Album "The Adventurist" Out Now

PictureCredit: Joe Murray
LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Cindy Lee Berryhill marks an affecting, intimate, and dazzling return to record-making with The Adventurist, an ambitious song cycle set for release by Omnivore Recordings. To celebrate The Adventurist, Berryhill is embarking on a summer tour throughout the U.S, first w/ David Lindley followed by dates with 1000 Maniacs and before embarking on Roots on the Rails w/Dave Alvin, Jon Langford and others.

Written and recorded over the course of the last five years and funded in part by a Kickstarter campaign, The Adventurist was co-produced by Berryhill with David Schwartz, Sheldon Gomberg, Ben Moore, and Lee Ray. Contributing musicians include singer-songwriter Syd Straw, Probyn Gregory and Nelson Bragg of Brian Wilson’s band, DJ Bonebrake of X, and David J Carpenter of Dead Rock West.

While it eschews biographical detail or a confessional tone, the album was inspired by Berryhill’s life with her late husband Paul Williams. Founder of the first modern American rock magazine Crawdaddy in 1966 and a prolific writer and critic, Williams married Berryhill in 1997. Two years earlier, Williams suffered a traumatic brain injury in a bicycling accident. Following the early onset of dementia in 2004 and deepening medical challenges, he was placed in full-time care in 2009; he died in March 2013.
