![]() 1973 hometown concert, which preceded the band’s legendary Rock Writers Convention showcase, to be available on CD, Digital and — for the first time — double LP. Features liner notes by Bud Scoppa and new mastering by Grammy® Award-winning producer Michael Graves. Digital format features a 1972 radio interview with Jon Scott. MEMPHIS, Tenn. (Press Release)— It is well known that Big Star played a one-off promotional concert for theMemphis Rock Writers Convention at Lafayette’s Music Room in Memphis in May of 1973. The show cemented them into legendary status, after the journalists who witnessed it carried the message of Big Star out in their writing, even though the band had only released one album, #1 Record, and were unsure of recording a second after the departure of co-founder Chris Bell. What may not be so widely known is that the trio played the same venue four months earlier with the same power and passion opening shows for the Houston R&B band Archie Bell & the Drells. First issued as Disc 4 of the Grammy® Award-winning Keep An Eye On The Sky box set, Live At Lafayette’s Music Room sees new light as a stand-alone release, available on January 12, 2018 from Omnivore Recordings on CD, Digital, and for the first time, double LP. The performance has never sounded better, thanks to new mastering and restoration from Grammy®-winning engineer Michael Graves, with supervision from Grammy®-winning producer Cheryl Pawelski.

![]() November 3, 2017 - Nashville, TN-based Americana duo Neon Moon recently shared their new video "Smoke" at PopMatters. The duo's latest EP 6:53 (out now) was recently featured at No Depression, the Alternate Root, & more. Georgia native Josh Bohannon moved from his small hometown to Los Angeles to play in rock and metal bands in pursuit of his musical dreams. Ten years ago, he followed one of those bands to Nashville for a yearlong gig. One month later, the band broke up and he started going to writers’ rounds. Bohannon met his musical partner and future wife Noelle, who grew up playing piano and belting out Aretha Franklin songs in Franklin, Tennessee. ![]() (Press Release) Dawes will release a limited-edition double LP pressing of We’re All Gonna Live, the first official live concert recording from the band, via their own HUB Records, on November 25th to celebrate Small Business Saturday. The album was manufactured in conjunction with Furnace Record Pressing and will be available at participating independently owned record stores. Dawes recorded the fifteen-song We’re All Gonna Live during the first four shows of their 2017 “An Evening With Dawes” tour, and the album contains live versions of fan favorites and new originals including “When The Tequila Runs Out,” “Roll With The Punches,” “A Little Bit of Everything,” “Things Happen,” and “All Your Favorite Bands” (full track list below). Listen to We’re All Gonna Live here. The band will appear at Long Beach’s Fingerprints Music record store for an intimate in-store performance and signing on November 25th between 4pm and 6pm. Tickets are available on a first come first serve basis to customers who pre-order or purchase the album at the store, and you can find more information here. Lead singer Taylor Goldsmith also recorded a video for Record Store Day about the importance of independent record stores and the band’s involvement in Small Business Saturday, saying: “When you come to a record store that is a small business, they’re going to really care about what you’re looking for, and what you identify with. You’re supporting people that care as much about music as you do to continue that love of music. In a lot of ways we like to perceive ourselves as a small business, as owners of our label, and so to get to be part of Small Business Saturday and celebrate that in anyway is obviously exciting for us.” Watch the video here. ![]() Jerry Joseph to perform at Rockwood Music Hall on Saturday, November 18 November 2, 2017 - Jerry Joseph announces release of Weird Blood on Cavity Search Records scheduled for November 17, 2017. Weird Blood is his third album released in as many years with his band the Jackmormons, Steve Drizos on drums and Steven James Wright on bass, and produced by Dave Schools (J Mascis and the Fog, Hard Working Americans, Stockholm Syndrome). Glide Magazine premieres the album opener, "Sweet Baba Jay", "reminiscent of Elvis Costello but with more of a defiant punk edge... the song taps into a sort of UK pub rock glory, but with Joseph’s own unique and vivid storytelling at the helm." Read and listen here. In 2015, Joseph and the Jackmormons went into TRI Studios with Dave Schools and walked out with 20 songs. Those songs became the albums Istanbul/Fog Of War (10/2015) and By The Time Your Rocket Gets to Mars (4/2016). The plan was to release a third album, an EP, with the remaining three finished songs supplemented by couple of new songs that Joseph would write. The plan went sideways. ![]() NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- When David Lee Murphy decided to go into the studio with his pal Kenny Chesney, he thought it would be fun to cut some tracks and drill down on a sound he created that was long on roadhouse, big on fun and built on solid songwriting. A few tracks led to a few more, and the good friends – along with co-producer Buddy Cannon -- realized they had a really good album on their hands. Today, people can get their first taste of No Zip Code, an album two years and a couple upgrades in the making. “Everything’s Gonna Be Alright” is a song for the times, stretched too thin, worried more than is healthy and ultimately realizing and embracing life’s inevitable leveling. With a shuffling groove, an attenuated pre-chorus and just enough reggae lift on the chorus, “Alright” may be a hymn for finding the balance to get through whatever is in front of you. “You watch the news, and look around… it’s a tough world,” the man known for No. 1 “Dust on the Bottle” and popular song “Party Crowd” says of the song. “You know, you can lean into all of that, or you can step back and trust life. When you do that, it makes it easier to take a deep breath and roll with everything that’s going on around you.” ![]() AUSTIN, Texas (Press Release)— Singer-songwriter enthusiasts rejoice: James McMurtry will open for Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit on an extensive tour together in early 2018. The highly lauded tunesmiths will launch the run at the Criterion in Oklahoma City on January 4 and serpentine for weeks throughout the South, Midwest and East Coast before concluding at the Charleston Municipal Auditorium in Charleston, West Virginia on February 17. Major markets on this exciting tour include the Fox Theatre in Atlanta, Heinz Hall in Pittsburgh and Kings Theatre in Brooklyn. “James McMurtry is one of my very few favorite songwriters on Earth,” Isbell says, “and these days he's working at the top of his game.” The McMurtry-Isbell combination offers fans lyrical and musical depth and weight few tours can match. After all, they’ve both been hailed as the finest songwriters of their respective generations whose latest releases — McMurtry's Complicated Game and Isbell and the 400 Unit's The Nashville Sound — show them in absolutely peak form. “James has that rare gift of being able to make a listener laugh out loud at one line and choke up at the next,” Isbell enthuses. “I don't think anybody writes better lyrics.” “Jason Isbell is one of the best songwriter-performers working today,” McMurtry counters, “and unlike most of us, he seems to have a work ethic to match. I will be studying him from the wings on this run.” McMurtry continues riding waves of universal acclaim for Complicated Game. “At a stage where most veteran musicians fall into a groove or rut, McMurtry continues to surprise,” Texas Music magazine recently noted. “[Complicated Game] is a collection of narratives as sharply observed as any from McMurtry, but with a contemplative depth that comes with maturity.” Indeed, the Austin resident's latest collection spotlights a singular craftsman as he turns inward (“These Things I've Come to Know,” “You Got to Me”). “The lyrical theme is mostly about relationships,” McMurtry says. “It's also a little about the big old world verses the poor little farmer or fisherman.” Either way, McMurtry spins his stories with a novelist’s eye (“Long Island Sound”) and a painter's precision (“She Loves Me”) throughout. “[McMurtry] takes listeners on a road trip of unprecedented geographic and emotional scope,” No Depression raved of Complicated Game. “Lyrically, the album is wise and adventurous, with McMurtry — who’s not prone to autobiographical tales — credibly inhabiting characters from all walks of life.” “[McMurtry] fuses wry, literate observations about the world with the snarl of barroom rock,” National Public Radio echoed. “The result is at times sardonic, subversive and funny, but often vulnerable and always poignant.” ![]() Garnering critical praise and earning comparisons to Gram Parsons and the Drive By Truckers, Chris Stalcup, and his band The Grange, released their sophomore album, Downhearted Fools, in September of last year. The songs on the ten-track collection are deeply authentic, passionate, and undeniably Southern. The Atlanta native knows how to write a song, and more importantly, knows how to write a song about what’s real with Downhearted Fools exploring such themes as life on the road, family, and relationships. Today, TDC is proud to premiere the video for one of the album's cuts, "Moonshinin'". Powered by Stalcup's whiskey-soaked drawl, the overwhelmingly emotional "Moonshinin'" chugs along like a train delivering both hope and heartbreak that are brought to life in the video, directed by Nathan Mowery. Stalcup relates the story behind the song and video, "Moonshinin' was a song I had written a little while back, it was actually recorded in the sessions for Dixie Electric Company. It just never sat with me quite right for that album. About the time when Downhearted Fools started taking shape, there were some major life changing things going on with some people close to me. The song finally made more sense and grew into itself. We re-cut some of it and some of the lyrics that I felt I had been struggling with became very clear to me. For the video, I knew I wanted to convey some of this background of the story (as Nathan tells below). We shot this on one afternoon and evening during the Supermoon which we were excited about considering the song title and all. My good friend and his girlfriend agreed to be our actors in this shoot. We wanted the story to feel convincing and since they have a genuine connection together, that translated well on screen. For me the story on screen is one of hope and desperation but with the nuance that sometimes it's never too late to keep hanging on. If you look close you will see I subtly included some music buddies throughout, Justin Wells, Scott Low, Matt Woods all got nods in this video without actually being there for the shoot..." Director Nathan Mowery comments on the emotional impact of the video and offers some fun facts about the making of the project,
"I've done several music videos for songs on Chris Stalcup's Downhearted Fools. Moonshinin' is my favorite track on that album. We wanted to capture the feeling of being completely in love and then the harsh pain of when that gets ripped away. In this case we have a couple deeply in love, buying records, dancing in the moonlight (shot during the super moon of last year fun fact). The woman begins to grow sick and the man does everything he can to help the woman he loves as he slowly accepts what's happening is beyond his control. She eventually passes and we show the grieving man holding onto a feather that she gave him. Sometimes we latch onto certain moments or memories with past loves and replay them over and over. In this case it was a feather that slowly made him lose his mind. The pain of his heartbreak leads him to tying a concrete block around his leg and jumping into a lake as feathers slowly falls from the sky over where he jumped in. When people watch this I hope it connects with their own pain as much as it reminds them to not take time with loved ones for granted. I'm a sucker for a good heartbreak song and this is a great one. During the first few shots you can actually see Stalcup walk by the frame. A little Easter egg. While we were shooting the woman floating, the trailer we were on flipped over causing me and the actress to fly into the air. Nobody was hurt but it was pretty funny. I also made it a point to give Stalcup's dog a cameo since she's been very supportive during the creation of these videos."
