Independent music label, Silverado Records, hopes to fill the homes of country music fans with the joyful music of their new project this holiday season, A Silverado Family Christmas, which was released Friday, November 25th.

The seasonal album joins Silverado Record’s talented recording artists and singer-songwriters Joe Diffie, Melissa Mickelson, Zack Dyer with close friends of the label, including Crystal Yates, Mandy McMillan, Tony Winkler and Gabe Burdulis.

Produced and recorded at Simon Reid Music, with one track from Will Yates Music, the record boasts several great holiday classics, like Joe Diffie’s instantly memorable take on “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” and Mandy McMillan’s inspired version of “Let It Snow,” in addition to special Christmas originals.  Zack Dyer’s “Snow Day” is an upbeat reflection of days lost to inclement weather, and Crystal Yates “Christmas Time for Just You and Me” is a “smokin’ hot holiday love song.”

“We wanted to bring our Silverado family together and celebrate all the things we love about the holidays,” said Silverado Records Marketing Director Heather Cramsie. “This album is a great balance of originals, and Christmas classics. We’re excited to share this fun project with country music fans.”

(Press Release) Texas music giants Ray Benson and Dale Watson join forces on their much-anticipated duo project  Dale & Ray, scheduled to release  Jan. 6 th on Ameripolitan/Home Records, distributed by Mailboat Records. The album will be available for pre-order this week at iTunes http://flyt.it/DaleandRayiTunes  and the band's store  http://flyt.it/DaleandRay

Benson the longtime leader of Western swing legends Asleep at the Wheel, has received numerous honors throughout the band's 40-plus-year career, including nine Grammy Awards, Texan of the Year, and induction into the Austin City Limits Hall of Fame. The stubbornly independent, resplendently-tattooed Watson epitomizes and invented the hard-country Ameripolitan movement, whose charter is to "leave the hopelessly compromised word 'country' behind (and) to reestablish this music's unique identity, elevate its significance and pass a great musical tradition on to future generations."

Together, they now present themselves, with tongues in cheeks, as "just two young country singers."

THREE-TIME GRAMMY NOMINEE  RUTHIE FOSTER TRANSFORMS SORROW
INTO CAREER-DEFINING SOUL/BLUES/GOSPEL/ROCK OPUS
JOY COMES BACK, RELEASING MARCH 24 ON BLUE CORN MUSIC

AUSTIN, Texas — In the tightknit musical community of Austin, Texas, it’s tough to get away with posturing. You either bring it, or you don’t.

If you do, word gets around. Praises are sung. And one day, you find yourself duetting with Bonnie Raitt, or standing onstage with the Allman Brothers at New York’s Beacon Theater and trading verses with Susan Tedeschi. You might even wind up getting nominated for a Best Blues Album Grammy — three times in a row. In addition to your six Female Artist of the Year/Koko Taylor Blues Music Awards.

There’s only one Austinite with that résumé:  Ruthie Foster. And when she releases  Joy Comes Back,  her eighth Blue Corn Music album, on  March 24, 2017, the Recording Academy might want to put its engraver on notice. Because every note on it confirms this truth: It’s Ruthie’s time.

DEC 13, 2016  (Press Release)- Atlanta-based roots rocker Blake Rainey has officially released his highly anticipated LP,  Helicopter Rose.  The release comes on the heels of press at outlets like Glide Magazine, PunkNews, Elmore, Performer Magazine, Bluegrass Situation, Impose Magazine & Myspace, with the latter writing, "With all the chaos in the world right now, sometimes you just need some good music to soothe our souls, and Blake Rainey and His Demons are here to provide a track for that soundtrack".  Helicopter Rose   is out now via Southern Lovers Recording Co.

The title track from Blake Rainey and His Demons’ latest album,  Helicopter Rose,  is about rescue, and it’s a theme that carries throughout the new record, one populated with stories of forlorn barflies, tattered relationships, and other hard-luck realities of modern life.

“The song ‘Dear Brother’ is about a soldier who’s lost at war, and all of his family and friends are drinking at this bar where he used to hang out, wishing he was there,” Rainey says of the record’s opening track, a dusty roots-rock cut topped off with splashes of Sprinsgsteen-esque Americana. “The record deals with this constant struggle to be rescued from something, whether it be addiction, bad love—or being in the military and being captured by enemy forces.”

(Press Release) Last month,  the Nashville-based five-piece  Blank Range   released their sophomore EP titled  Vista Bent   on  Sturdy Girls Records   distributed via  Thirty Tigers. Next year, the band will hit the road with  The Wild Reeds   for a string of dates on the west coast and throughout the south. Find a full list of tour dates below and visit  www.blankrangemusic.com  for more details.

The Vista Bent  EP was premiered in its entirety by  Stereogum  who said, "The four-track collection is a country-tinged drive down the highway with whiskey-soaked vocals and plenty of steel guitar. Blunted bell clangs and lively pop rock melodies of Vista Bent make for a happy compendium of ’70s nostalgia, Nashville heartbreak, and subtle experimentation."

Stream the EP in its entirety via  Spotify  and purchase on  iTunes  and  Bandcamp.

Nashville, TN (Press Release) – Son Volt has announced a 2017 spring tour in support of the their upcoming album  Notes Of Blue, out  February 17   via Thirty Tigers. The 10 songs that comprise  Notes Of Blue, were inspired by the blues and unique tunings of artists such as Mississippi Fred McDowell, Skip James and Nick Drake. Last week, Garden & Gun  premiered two tracks from the album, the gritty “Lost Souls” and “Back Against The Wall”, a song that would sit comfortably alongside any set  from the Son Volt repertoire. View  HERE.

Led by the songwriting and vocals of Jay Farrar, Son Volt was one of the most instrumental and influential bands in launching the alt.country movement, which led directly to Americana. Farrar possesses one of the more distinctive voices in music. He exudes a soulful longing combined with a wise-beyond-his-years command that is as arresting and compelling as ever. As a songwriter, Farrar’s depth and poetic penchant have been the foundation of an acclaimed body of work. Both attributes are on full display on  Notes Of Blue, as he touches on themes of redemption and the common struggle.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Press Release)— Art Pepper,  the alto saxophonist who became a significant figure in the West Coast jazz movement through his recordings with  Stan Kenton   and his vast 55-year solo discography, was an at artistic zenith in the late ’70s. The Japanese label  Atlas  approached Pepper, hoping to have him record for the company, but Pepper was under contract to another label at the time. Pepper’s wife, Laurie, suggested he record for Atlas ostensibly as a “sideman.” Atlas was looking to capture the straight-ahead, breezy bebop that made the West Coast sound so sweet, so Pepper chose the “leaders” who could deliver that sound. His choices included fellow jazz saxophonist Sonny Stitt  and pianist  Pete Jolly, as highlighted in these first two releases, and  Lee Konitz, Bill Watrous, Jack Sheldon  and  Shelly Manne, coming in future volumes of the series. Pepper continued to record prolifically until his death in 1982.

Rue Snider Explores Loneliness in the Video for "Crowd Into Trains"

12/12/2016

Picture
BROOKLYN, NY (Press Release) - Folk-punk/Americana singer songwriter Rue Snider will release the first official video from his second solo record, Broken Window, for the song “Crowd Into Trains” today,  December 12. A four song One On One Session of live, acoustic songs filmed at City Winery in Manhattan preceded this video’s release in November.

“Crowd Into Trains” is the only New York City-centric track on  Broken Window   and was an obvious choice to capture the energy and isolation of Rue’s home of eleven years. Shooting stuck to a strict DIY aesthetic utilizing only an iPhone 6s, a Panasonic DMC-ZS25 point and shoot camera, and a skeleton crew. The video was captured over two days in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens. Rue wrote, directed, and edited the footage himself. The video features local NYC actress Lindsay Nolin. Watch "Crowd Into Trains"  HERE.

“There are many things about New York that are difficult to wrap your head around unless you spend a lot of time there,” says Rue. “The absence of car culture is one of those things. The extraordinary access to other humans but infrequency of meaningful interactions is another. The video captures loneliness through a missed connection. I hope the sadness makes people feel less alone.”

Rue Snider has toured America extensively for three years, making appearances at SXSW, Folk Alliance International, and North East Regional Folk Alliance. He has opened or played split bills with hundreds of performers including Tom Maxwell (Squirrel Nut Zippers), Nate Farley (Guided By Voices), Lou Poster (Grafton), Tropic of Pisces, Superhuman Happiness, Benjamin Scheuer ("The Lion"), Blue Healer, Donna Missal, and Walter Salas-Humara (the Silos).

Broken Window   released October 7, 2016. The Broken Window Tour continues through March 2017.
