Irreverent Country Artist, Case Garrett Releases 'Aurora' Today

"Long Way Down" VIDEO

Timing can be everything. With the groundswell of outlaw, independent and alt-country making huge gains the past couple of years, Case Garrett’s album Aurora lands at an opportune moment of history, fitting right alongside the outlaw and independent country sounds that are garnering larger audiences seemingly every few months.

While firmly rooted in country music’s hallowed traditions, the independently produced album plays out as sublimely alive and contemporary. Garrett has a keen knack for songwriting and arrangement, which he confirms throughout this debut release. Saddled up with a truly superlative band of sidemen, including Michael Douchette on pedal steel guitar and the always-amazing Jenee Fleenor on fiddle, Garrett runs through a gamut of emotions and story telling throughout the album. “The first real song I wrote with any words attached was in high school, a weak attempt at a kind of old-school Jackson Browne love song,” he notes. “I played it on piano one night at this party and the girls teared up and cried and I thought to myself, ‘Damn, this songwriting stuff is a powerful thing. I should do more of this.’”

Playing multiple instruments today, Garrett writes in a voice that is immediately accessible, blending in the hauntingly sad and personal in “Long Way Down,” to the tongue-in-cheek, slightly irreverent “The Thought Of You.” As a narrator, Garrett allows the characters wide berths in songs such a “Going Down To Mobile” and “Fill ‘er Up,” as they come vividly alive while they go about their trial and tribulations.

Born in Missouri, with an itinerant upbringing, Garrett is now settled just outside of New York City. He credits time in his younger years spent in Tennessee and Louisiana for much of his musical outlook, highlighting the integral roles of both his grandfathers.

DEBUTS NEW VIDEO FOR ALBUM’S
FIRST SINGLE, “PICTURES OF YOU”

Sonny Smith
(artist page), of Sonny And The Sunsets, will release his tenth studio album, Rod For Your Love via Dan Auerbach's new label, Easy Eye Sound, on February 9th. The record, produced by Black Keys frontman Dan Auerbach at his Nashville studio, roots itself in old-school, guitar-driven rock & roll, and is equally built for the garage and the dance floor, with big-hearted melodies and thick harmonies. "I think a lot of albums are made in reaction to the one that came directly before," says Smith, whose earlier recordings were released by labels like Fat Possum and Polyvinyl. "By the time we got to Nashville and began working with Dan, I was thinking 'let's just make a fun, guitar-driven record. I don't want to have any extracurricular stuff here. I just want it to be really pure.' Rod For Your Love is available for pre-order on CD, vinyl, and digitally here.

This morning, Sonny Smith also debuts the music video for Rod For Your Love’s first single, “Pictures of You,” directed by Ryan Daniel Browne via FLOOD Magazine, who say the song “suggests Black Lips more than Black Keys, as the jangling guitars and breezy melodies lift the peculiarly linear two-and-a-half minute track to heights previously unreached by Smith.” Watch “Pictures of You” here.

Singer-Songwriter John Adams releases new single ''For Me, For Her, For You''

John Adams releases his fourth single 'For Me, For Her, For You' from his forthcoming album You Never Know Who's Listening. His acoustic approach compliments a unique and impressive vocal ability and his songwriting shares innermost thoughts, and purposeful observations. Hailing from the valleys of South Wales, John has spent nearly all his adult life as a songwriter playing gigs and busking up and down the country. In a leap of faith he quit his job as a Maths teacher to perform full time. That gamble paid off developing a loyal fan base of over a 100,000 monthly listeners, supporting acts such as Take That, Lemar, Stooshe, T'Pau and Katherine Jenkins and performing at some of the UK's largest festivals.

Earlier in his career John appeared on The X Factor singing "Cannonball" by Damien Rice. He reached the last 12 boys and was widely credited for getting "Cannonball" back into the charts. Making chart history as the first time a song had re-entered at a higher position than the original release. Eager to show his progression John will be releasing his album "You Never Know Who's Listening" this year which combines his live organic sound with a minimal electronic production to make a sound that is satisfyingly different from the usual guitar wielding Singer/Songwriter. The first release "Dandelion Wishes" has received over 2 million plays on Spotify promising to be this year's most talked about viral Spotify hit.

'For Me, For Her, For You' showcases John's natural talent for singing, as well as being able to write contemporary pop songs. As for the meaning behind the song , John explains '"For Me, For Her, For You uses the ideology that you can share your heart with more than one person to save anybody being without. A good friend of mine had fallen in love but someone else he cared for has also fallen for him, I could see the agony he was going through not wanting to hurt anybody's feelings and he told me I wish I could split my heart in three."

Pauline Andres to Release 'Fearless Heart'

The Nashville based songstress Pauline Andres will be releasing her next full-length album, Fearless Heart, in February of 2018 and just released Loneliest Girl in Nashville, which premiered in The Revue.

Born in France a coal miner's daughter, Pauline Andres made a name for herself with a sweet and smoky voice that “perfectly conveys the thoughts and observations of an old soul walking home at closing time.” A true citizen of the world, she’s lived in Paris, London, Berlin and now Nashville. She traveled the world, survived life-threatening diseases, late night fights and all kinds of heartbreaks. Her nonchalant style tastefully serves an inclination for ordinary suffering and everyday disappointments combined with subtle literary references.

Pauline recently settled in "Music City" after spending 5 years in Berlin, where she recorded the accidental EP Fuck You French Girl and 2 LPs: All Them Ghosts and The Heart Breaks. Both records helped her build a reputation as a skilled lyricist and unique vocalist but all the while she knew, she had the wrong town. Too country for the local indie fans, too rock & roll for the old school country aficionados around. After the positive reception of The Heart Breaks in the US, she decided to join “her” people, in the American South.

Skinny Lister Release New Holiday Song, "Christmas Calls"

WATCH: “CHRISTMAS CALLS” (ON YOUTUBE)

(Press Release) London-based folk-punk heroes Skinny Lister have wrapped up an extra special present for their fans and listeners everywhere this year in the form of “Christmas Calls,” an epic new holiday anthem which harks back to The Pogues‘ all-time classic “Fairy Tale of New York” while retaining an authentic Skinny Lister vibe. While on tour with Dropkick Murphys earlier in 2017, the band shot and self-directed the accompanying video to “Christmas Calls” which sees them trek across the scenic snow-dusted hills of Austria and Germany. Shot on 1970s Super 8 film and featuring behind-the-scenes tour action, the video is a Christmas postcard in itself. Check it out HERE.

Speaking about the track, frontman Daniel Heptinstall said:
“I wrote this song in the lead up to last Christmas so I was in full festive spirit! I didn't actually make a conscious decision to write a Christmas song, it wasn't contrived in any way, it just arrived when I picked up the guitar one day. I am a big fan of a good Christmas track and that warm nostalgic feeling they can evoke. I’ve always had a soft spot for a bit of Chris Rea when driving up North to see the family for Christmas, or the festive rush of nostalgia I get from those opening bars of The Pogues' 'Fairytale of New York'. I'm more-than-happy to throw a
Skinny Lister one into the mix.”

NASHVILLE – “The 51st Annual CMA Awards” walked the line between celebration and commemoration Wednesday night as Garth Brooks won Entertainer of the Year for a record-extending sixth time while Chris Stapleton and Brothers Osborne took home two Awards apiece.
An all-star group that included Kelsea Ballerini, Brooks, Kix Brooks, Eric Church, Ronnie Dunn, Faith Hill, Lady Antebellum, Little Big Town, Reba McEntire, Tim McGraw, Thomas Rhett, Darius Rucker, and Keith Urban struck a chord of togetherness through the ABC Television Network broadcast with an emotional collaboration that began with Church singing “Amazing Grace” a cappella in silhouette, then the rest of the group joining in on Rucker’s uplifting hit “Hold My Hand” from his time as the lead singer of Hootie & The Blowfish.

Co-host Carrie Underwood then summed up the evening’s mission statement in the opening of her 10thyear monologue with Brad Paisley: “Las Vegas. Charlottesville. New York. Sutherland Springs. Historic storms in Texas, Puerto Rico and Florida. The list goes on and on. This has been a year marked by tragedy, impacting countless lives, including so many in our Country Music family. So tonight we’re going to do what families do – come together, pray together, cry together and sing together.”

Song Premiere: Craig Gerdes "Smokin', Drinkin' & Gamblin'"

11/9/2017

PictureCraig Gerdes. Photo by Al Steinz
Craig Gerdes began playing country music at the age of 10 in the band of his father with the songs of Jones, Haggard, and Cash providing the musical foundation. By age 12, he was a capable songwriter and musician, and by 16, he'd wandered from the narrow path. "In the same summer," he recalls, "I totaled my car, broke my best friend's neck, dropped out of high school, got arrested and got married."

A few years later, Gerdes wound up living on Music Row and while he was able to gain traction with a publishing company and do some co-writing, his traditional songs just didn't fit in. After years of commuting back and forth, he left Nashville behind and returned full-time to Illinois. During this point, while he was on a hiatus from songwriting to concentrate on raising his kids, his 16-year-old cousin was killed in a car wreck. He was compelled to write again by an angel he believes is her.

And write he did. His upcoming project, Smokin', Drinkin' and Gamblin', due February 16th, includes murder ballads ("Dead In A Box In Kentucky"), songs about distant lovers, ("Almost To Alabama"), a cover of Johnny Paycheck’s "Slide Off Of Your Satin Sheets" and his take on the music business with the title track, which TDC is incredibly pleased to premiere today.

Penned by Gerdes, "Smokin', Drinkin' and Gamblin'" is a Texas-style barn-burner led by smoldering guitars, pedal steel, and Gerdes' well-seasoned vocals. The no-frills anthem recalls Haggard, Shaver, and Coe and finds Gerdes emerging as a standout member of the new class of outlaw country traditionalists.

Gerdes had this to say about the track,
"'Smokin’, Drinkin’ and Gamblin’', is a reference to the music business.  The Smokin’ is about the smoke and mirrors that happens, the Drinkin’ is about the drinking and substance abuse that haunts many of us, and the Gamblin’, well, there is no bigger gamble than the music business.”
